Blount Mansion Semiquincentennial Celebration: 1776 and Tennessee: The 250th Anniversary

Saturday, February 21, 2026 • 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Blount Mansion's Semiquincentennial Celebration, in a partnership with the National Society of Colonial Dames of America (NSCDA) Knoxville Town Committee, continues with Dr. Chris Magra for 1776 and Tennessee: The 250th Anniversary. The formation of Tennessee was inextricably linked to the Declaration of Independence. Appalachian settlers established independent western governments like the Watauga Association (1772) and the State of Franklin (1784). The Revolutionary War and the efforts of the Overmountain Men at Kings Mountain provided settlers with the leverage they needed to demand statehood.

Magra is a professor of Early American History and director of the Center for the Study of Tennesseans and War at the Department of History at the University of Tennessee. Limited free parking is available onsite. A $5 donation is suggested at the door; cash and cards accepted. RSVP to [email protected].
