Knoxville History Project Holiday Open House
Sunday, November 23, 2025 • 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
The Knoxville History Project will hold its Holiday Open House for attendees to enjoy a drink and a cookie while perusing the subterranean lair. All of KHP's books will be available, including copies of the latest, "The Second Balcony: The African American Experience at the Bijou Theatre" and "Knoxville Lives VI." Check out a part of what’s become partly an urban legend, a section of “Underground Knoxville,” right outside the door, which is below the Gay Street sidewalk. At 2:30 p.m., Jack Neely will lead a short, mostly street-level tour of the 100 block of Gay Street and highlight a few stories from its lively history involving gunfights, the first public library and Italian peanut vendor, the old WNOX studio (home to the popular Midday-Merry-Go-Round) and the legendary Harold’s Deli.
