The gala for “A Toast to the Arts: 2019” is held by The Knoxville Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and supports the citywide efforts to recognize Beauford and Joseph Delaney, world-renowned artists and Knoxville natives. Gala proceeds will fund the performance of “Beauford,” which will be presented in 2020 by Knoxville’s Marble Opera Company. The opera was commissioned by Gathering Light: The Delaney Project. The Links, Incorporated, a nonprofit established in 1946, consists of nearly 14,000 professional women of color in 285 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.
