Knox Heritage Preservation Network: Lasting Protection: How Preservation Easements Safeguard Our Historic Places

Wednesday, August 19, 2026 • 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

In partnership with the Eugenia Williams House and the Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County, join Hollie Cook, director of preservation services at Knox Heritage, for a deeper look into how Knox Heritage uses preservation easements to protect historic places across the community. Free to attend, but RSVP is required.

This lecture will provide a comprehensive overview of what preservation easements are, how they function, and the long-term benefits they offer to both property owners and the broader public. Attendees will gain insight into the legal protections easements provide, the stewardship role Knox Heritage plays and examples of local properties currently safeguarded through the program.

Jessie Landl, executive director of the Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County, will share an inside look at their organization’s successful easement program, how it operates, what challenges and opportunities they’ve encountered, and how it contributes to preserving the architectural and cultural heritage of Western North Carolina. Together, these presentations will offer valuable perspectives on how preservation easements serve as powerful, lasting tools for protecting the historic places that define our communities.
