Blount Mansion will host a Springtime Ice Cream Social for Knoxville's only National Historic Landmark and birthplace of Tennessee. The afternoon will include ice cream, lawn games and access to the gardens. Limited free parking onsite. Tickets are $10 for adults; $5, children 12 and under. Cash and cards are accepted. Blount Mansion will host its annual spring garden party, Martinis at the Mansion, with cocktails, wine and beer served in the garden, grazing tables catered by Classy Caterer and live music by Matt Moreland and friends. Blount Mansion will host a book release for "Tennessee Samplers, Female Education & Domestic Arts, 1800-1900," by Jennifer Core and Janet Hasson. Core will speak about highlights of the book, which is a study of samplers – embroideries that are “first attempts at a new technique, color combination, or unusual material" – and provides vivid descriptions of a 19th century Tennessee art form in its many varieties. Magra is a professor of early American history at the University of Tennessee and the director of the Center for the Study of Tennesseans and War at the Department of History.
